Industry

Swedish industry, including service companies close to industry, creates almost a million jobs and accounts for over 70 percent of Sweden's total export value. In the MIGHTY region the industry plays a particularly important role for the economy and the labour market.

All regional governments in MIGHTY have highlighted the strategic importance of supporting digital development of the local industry. The base of the regional industry lies in the process industries of steel and forest products.

Large industry companies are often supported by specialised smaller and family-owned companies. The region contains a significant number of these smaller companies compared to the rest of Sweden*. The challenge to do a digital transformation is often tougher for a smaller company. Smaller companies often lack resources and experience to initiate the required changes.MIGHTY focuses on digital support and transformation for smaller companies working closely to and often is providers to greater process industries.

Digitalisation paves the way for new business models and making others redundant. It is therefore of great importance that the manufacturing industry takes advantage of digitalisation and to use data as a strategic resource for sustainable innovation and business development.

MIGHTY state that digitalisation is fundamental to reach the common global challenges described in Agenda 2030 and the European Green deal.
